Michaele Schreyer

Michaele Schreyer ( born August 9, 1951 in Cologne ) is a German politician ( Alliance 90/The Greens ) and Vice-President of the European Movement Germany. She was from 1989 to 1990 Senator in the State of Berlin and from 1999 to 2004, responsible for the budget Commissioner.

Profession

Michaele Schreyer studied from 1970 to 1976 Economics and Sociology at the University of Cologne. She did her doctorate in 1983, Doctor of Political Science. Since 1977, she has held various academic positions at the University of Berlin, in the Group of the Greens in the Bundestag and the Ifo Institute in Munich.

1989 Michaele Schreyer began her vocation to Senator for Urban Development and Environmental Protection of the State of Berlin their political career, but resigned in 1990 due to the completion of the red-green coalition Senate (Senate Momper ) again from this office. From 1991 to 1999 she was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives. EU Commissioner

In September 1999, she was Commissioner and took over the responsibility for the DG Budget and the European Anti-Fraud Office ( Prodi Commission ). Schreyer was the first and only Green member of the European Commission.

Their appeal met with protests from the opposition in the federal government (CDU / CSU and FDP ), because with her and Günter Verheugen ( SPD), two members of the governing parties Commissioners were. Previously, it was common that one of the two commissioners of the opposition belonged.

Schreyer retired in 2004 with the inauguration of the Barroso Commission I from the EU Commission. Germany is since the fall of 2004 as all EU member states, only one Commissioner, Günter Verheugen remained with the SPD representative to the Commission.
