Michał Pius Römer

Mykolas Romeris (* on May 7, 1880 in Bagdoniškis, rayon Rokiškis, Lithuania, † February 22, 1945 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian constitutional lawyer and professor of constitutional law at the University of Kaunas and Vilnius University, Judge.

Life

Mykolas Romeris (Polish: Michał Pius Römer ) came from a noble family Polonized deutschbaltischer origin. He completed his law studies at the Law Faculty of the University of Saint -Petersburg and the University of Krakow and University of Paris. Although the Polish culture entstammend, he decided to participate in building the young Lithuanian state after 1920 and worked as a professor of Lithuanian University in Kaunas and then in Vilnius. He is considered the founder of the Lithuanian constitutional law. In addition, he was a judge in the District Court and the Vyriausiasis Tribunolas (Supreme Court). In the years 1932, 1938 and 1939, he acted in a total of four cases as an ad hoc judge at the Permanent Court of International Justice in The Hague.

The Mykolas Romeris University in Vilnius bears his name since 2004.
