Michał Serwacy Wiśniowiecki

Michał Serwacy Wiśniowiecki ( Lithuanian Mykolas Vyšnioveckis; born May 13, 1680 in Lwów, today Ukraine, † September 18, 1744 Merkinė, Lithuania) was a hetman of Lithuania in the 18th century. In addition, he was Grand Chancellor of Lithuania in 1720. He came from the high nobility Wiśniowiecki.

Family

Michał Serwacy Wiśniowiecki was born on May 13, 1680 in Lwów. His father was Konstanty Krzysztof Wiśniowiecki, the voivode of Belz Voivodeship. His mother was Anna Chodorowska.

He was married three times. His first wife Katarzyna Dolska he married on May 10, 1696th With her he had two daughters, Anna and Katarzyna Wiśniowiecka. She died on 26 January 1726 Lubieszów. On July 29, 1725 he married Mary Magdalene Czartoryska. She died on 4 December 1728 in Opole. Two years later he married Tekla Róża Radziwill. She was the widow of Jacob Heinrich Count von Flemming. The wedding was on 21 February 1730.

He died on 18 September 1744 Merkinė. His funeral was one of the most generous in Wisnicz of the 18th century in Poland.

Military career

During the civil war in Lithuania in 1700 Wiśniowiecki was the leader of the opposition to the party of the Sapieha. In the battle of Olkieniki on November 18, 1700, he defeated as commander in chief the sapiehanischen troops. He was appointed in 1702 to Feldhetman of Lithuania. After the peace treaty in 1716, he returned to his homeland.

In 1720, he was appointed Grand Chancellor of Lithuania.

In 1733 he supported the Russian intervention and the choice of Augustus III.

From 1735, he is also appointed Voivode of Vilnius.
