Michaľany

Michaľany (Slovak to 1927 " Mihaľany "; Hungarian Alsómihályi - to 1902 Mihályi ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia.

Location

It lies in the southeastern part of the East Slovak Lowland on the banks of Roňava brook. The nearest large towns are the county seat Trebišov (16 km) and Košice (45 km).

History

The village was first mentioned in 1252. Until 1919 it belonged to the county Semplin the Kingdom of Hungary. Then she came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. Because of the First Vienna Award 1938-1945 it belonged again to Hungary and since 1993 has been part of the present-day Slovakia.
