Michel Blavet

Michel Blavet ( born March 13, 1700 in Besançon, † October 28th 1768 in Paris) was a French flute virtuoso and composer.

Life

Celebrated an early age as " the best French flutist ," he received at the age of 23 years with the patronage of the Duke of Levis the post of first flutist at the Paris Opera.

1732 he was musical Superintendent of the Count of Clermont, a position which he held until his death in 1768. In 1738 he was also a member of the royal chapel at Versailles, in 1740, he entered the orchestra of the Paris Opera.

Blessed by famous composers such as Johann Joachim Quantz and Georg Philipp Telemann Frederick the Great had offered him a highly paid position, but the Blavet turned down.

Works

Blavets instrument, the flute, is in his compositions at the center. Reported are:

  • Six Sonatas for Two Flutes without Bass Opus 1 (1728 );
  • Twelve Sonatas for Flute and Continuo, Op 2 (1732 );
  • Third sonata Book ( 1740);
  • Concerto in A Minor for Flute and Strings (without Viola) ( 1745, 1954 rediscovered ). It has some elaborated by the composer cadences that sounded partly over a pedal point;
  • Four operas, of which only receive: Le Jaloux Corrige (1752 ); so that was the first composer Blavet a French comic opera;
  • Did not get to have the time Blavets famous quartets for flute, violin, viola da gamba and continuo.

A selection of Blavets sonatas in 1908 was re-laid in England. Several compositions Blavets have also been published in arrangements for the recorder ( soprano or alto).
