Michel de La Barre

Michel de La Barre ( * before 1675 in Paris, † March 15, 1745 ) was a French flautist and composer.

About the life of Michel de La Barre few details are known. Born as the son of a wine merchant, he published in 1694 with " Pièces en trio " for 2 violins, flutes or oboes and basso continuo his first composition. Since about 1695, he worked at the court of Louis XIV as a flute virtuoso, where he held from 1703 to 1730 an official position in the Musique de l' Ecurie et de la Chambre du Roi. His 1702 published op 4, the " Pièces pour la flute traversière avec la basse continue ," is considered the first work composed expressly for Travers or Flute solo work at all. In addition to numerous instrumental works he composed songs as well as two operas ( " Le Triomphe des Arts ", premiered in 1700 and " La Vénitienne ", premiered in 1705 ).
