Michel Djotodia

Michel On - Nondokro Djotodia (* probably 1949 in Vakaga, Equatorial Africa, now Central African Republic) was on March 24, 2013 to January 10, 2014 de facto President of the Central African Republic and successor of François Bozizé, who after a coup Djotodias out of the country had to flee.

Career

A native of Vakaga in northern Central African Republic Djotodia was in previous years consul in Nyala in western Sudan and Chairman of numerous political and military organizations within his home country. During the Civil War he lived between 2004 and 2007 in Cotonou in the south of Benin.

From December 2012, he supported the SELEKA, a Rebel Alliance, which had deposed the Bozizé to target military means. After this had pledged a contribution from the rebels to the government, Djotodia received the post of defense minister in February 2013. In March of the same year it came in Bangui for coup by rebels and forced the previous government representatives. Djotodia thereupon appointed himself as the new President of the Central African Republic and dissolved the SELEKA on. Following a meeting with representatives of the Central African Economic Community ( ECCAS ) Djotodia announced on 10 January 2014 his resignation. Even Prime Minister Nicolas Tiangaye announced his resignation. A day later, he left the country and went into exile in Benin.
