Michel Godard

Michel Godard ( born October 3, 1960 in Héricourt, Haute -Saône ) is a French jazz musician (tuba and Serpent ).

Life and work

Godard studied classical music (trumpet ) at the Music Conservatory in Besançon and Paris. Looking for recordings of music with the tuba came to record " Bush Baby" with Bob Stewart, tuba, and Arthur Blythe (saxophone ). After Godard's report was the introduction to jazz and improvised music. He was from 1988 a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France. From 1989 to 1991 Godard played in the Orchestre National de Jazz under Claude Barthélémy. He also was a member of various other ensembles such as the Orchestre National de France, the Ensemble Musique Vivante, the Ensemble Jacques Moderne, the Ancient Music Ensemble La Venice and " XVIII- 21Musique de Lumieres " and the " Arban Chamber Brass " quintet.

Godard is now a high-profile European jazz musician who used to play the tuba polyphonic techniques ( multiphonics ), also plays contemporary and early music and occurs in very various ensembles as well as receiving plates. Initially known for his collaboration with Godard was also his tuba -playing compatriot Marc Steckar in the Tuba Jazz Ensemble Steckar TUBAPACK. It is unusual that Godard except the tuba and serpent, the precursor of the tuba, plays (since 1979). Also to electric bass engages Godard now and then. Currently plays Godard et al in the group that coming from Lebanon oud player Rabih Abou -Khalil and a quartet with the American tuba virtuoso Dave Bargeron ( renowned for his work with the Rock Big Band Blood, Sweat & Tears ).

Godard lives in the town Monthyon ( in Meaux, France).
