Michel Goulet

Bernard Michel Goulet (born 21 April 1960 Péribonka, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who played from 1979 to 1994 for the Quebec Nordiques and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League and the Birmingham Bulls in the World Hockey Association.

Career

After he had played as a Junior at the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL, he began his professional career in the WHA with the Birmingham Bulls. Sporty caused him so no problems, but who grew up in the province of Quebec Goulet barely spoke English and was found with his French in the deep south of Alabama initially difficult to cope. In the NHL Entry Draft in 1979 then the Quebec Nordiques picked him as the No. 20 back into the home. Goulet counted now among the top most consistent scorers in the NHL. Except for his last season he scored 20 goals more than ever. From the 1981/82 season he surpassed seven times in a row at the 40 goal mark. Despite the great aggressiveness in his game of Left Wing always remained fairly. For years he was one of the supports and Topsrorern the Nordiques. A great experience it was to participate in the Rendez -vous '87 with the Canadian national team, which was played in place of the NHL All- Star Games in two games against the USSR for him. With the Chicago Blackhawks he had to play a more defensive role in Québec than before. In the summer of 1990 it had been found heart problems with him, but with a complicated operation, the progress of his career could be ensured. With a hat-trick against Minnesota on 23 February 1991, he scored as a 30th player his 1,000 point scorer in the NHL.

On March 16, 1994, he crashed into a game with the Montreal Canadiens into the boards and suffered a serious head injury that forced him to end his career. Exactly one year after the accident, was hanged in Quebec his jersey with the number 16 under the hall roof and the number is no longer assigned by the team ever since. However, the team moved to Denver in 1995 by Quebec under the name Colorado Avalanche, the re- assign the number.

In 1998 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

In the following years, Goulet was active in the organization of the Avalanche, as the team got its name in 1996 and 2001 won the Stanley Cup immortalized on the trophy.
