Michel Murr

Michel Murr ( * 1932 in Bteghrine ) is a Lebanese politician and businessman. He is a member of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Life

After studying engineering, he went into the construction industry. In 1968 he became MP for the Metn district, the re-election in 1972, he missed, but he still remained active in politics. Murr in 1979, Minister of Housing and was between 1980 and 1982 Minister of Telecommunications. After the Civil War, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior from 1990 to November 2000. Upon retiring from the Cabinet, he retained his parliamentary seat in 2004 and was Vice - President of the Parliament. Murr is regarded as pro- Syrian and is very controversial. He is associated with electoral fraud. In 2005, he forged with the ex-general Michel Aoun, a political alliance, also called Free Patriotic Movement.

His son, Elias Murr took over since the departure of the father from the Cabinet the post of interior minister (2000 to 2004) and then the post of defense minister.

The brother of Michel Murr Elias Murr sen. is a businessman in the construction industry and owner of the TV channel Murr TV, which was closed by the government for anti - Syrian stance in 2000. The brothers are considered to be at odds.
