Michel Odent

Michel Odent (* 1930) is a physician and obstetrician and an important proponent of natural childbirth.

Odent, a student of the pioneer of the so-called gentle birth Frédérick Leboyer, was chief physician of the maternity department of the district hospital of Argeles before he founded the Research Foundation Primal Health Research Centre in London. He became known through numerous publications that deal primarily with pregnancy, childbirth and lactation.

In Gebärraum the clinic in Pithiviers Odent presented a normal inflatable paddling pool at first to allow women during labor a relaxing in the warm water. From this then the now common method of water birth.
