Michel Visi

Michel Visi ( born October 24, 1954 in Ningfire, Ambae, Vanuatu, † 19 May, 2007 Port Vila, Vanuatu) was Bishop of Port Vila in Vanuatu.

Life

Visi came from the island of Ambae in north Vanuatu. After completing his education in Saint Léon de Paita in New Caledonia and in Suva Catholic St Pierre Chanel seminar at the Marist Fathers Michel Visi received December 15, 1982 in Port Vila, Vanuatu, to the priesthood. Subsequently, he studied canon law at Ottawa and was later head of the Suva seminar.

On 30 November 1996 he was appointed as the first native of John Paul II to the 29th Bishop of the Diocese of Port Vila and consecrated on 12 April 1997 Francis -Roland Lambert.

Michel Visi was the deputy chairman of the Pacific Conference of Bishops ( CEPAC ). He was also a former member of the " Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation ".

Visi was found dead at his home in Port Vila on 19 May 2007. He played an important role in the fight against corruption in the Pacific, according to press information. He was also a mediator in violent confrontation and tribal conflicts on the edge of the pot Vila in March 2007.
