Michele Bartoli

Michele Bartoli ( born May 27, 1970 in Pisa ) is an Italian former racing cyclist. His nickname was Il Guerriero ( German: The Warrior ). He was a professional cyclist von 1992 to 2004. His first victory he won in 1993 for the team Mercatone Uno, for the later Marco Pantani went. Since 1994, he is married to Alessandra Ciuffardi.

Sports career

Bartoli was one of the most successful classic hunter. He took the overall World Cup twice, winning eight World Cup races, including with Liège -Bastogne-Liège and the Tour of Flanders race with very different requirements.

To the best of 1998, and after Bartoli 1999 very promising began at the Flèche Wallonne and Tirreno- Adriatico with victories, he retired during the Germany tour a serious knee injury and consequently lost the lead in the UCI World Ranking, which he of October 1998 to June 1999 held. In 2000 he went with two fourth places past the Olympic road race in Sydney and at the World Cup short of the medals. In 2002 he reached the victory of the Tour of Lombardy 's first World Cup victory on Italian soil. This victory he repeated in 2003.
