Michele Scarponi

Michele Scarponi ( born September 25, 1979 in Filottrano ) is an Italian racing cyclist.

Scarponi started his career in 2002 with the Italian cycling team Acqua e Sapone. After a year he moved to Domina Vacanze, where in 2004 he made ​​the breakthrough. In the spring classics Flèche Wallonne and Liège -Bastogne -Liège, he was fourth or seventh. In May, he won a stage and the overall at the Peace Race, and in July he finished second in the Tour of Austria. At the Tour de France, he was 32 ​​and fourth in the junior rankings. Since 2005 he drove in the Spanish ProTeam Liberty Seguros.

2006 Scarponi was excluded from the Tour de France because he had come under suspicion of doping. On 8 May 2007, just one day after Basso confession, admitted also Scarponi, that he may have something to do with the doping scandal Fuentes. He also promised a full explanation. He was assigned thereto by the Italian Cycling Federation FCI with a 18-month ban, which lasted until 15 November 2008.

He celebrated his biggest success in 2009 with the total victory of the race Tirreno - Adriatico, which he secured with a stage victory. At the Giro d' Italia in 2009 he scored two stage wins.

In 2010, he was about to repeat his success at Tirreno- Adriatico, but Stefano Garzelli took him on the last stage in an intermediate sprint the missing seconds and lay the same time as Scarponi to square one. The lower sum of all his stage placements made ​​Stefano Garzelli as the overall winner. At the Giro, he drove for the first time on his own account. Its shape was enough for a stage win and fourth overall.

End of 2012, Scarponi was banned by the Italian Olympic Committee CONI for three months until 1 January 2013. The lock began retroactively on 1 October 2012. He had admitted that he was advised by the life sentence suspended as a coach and team doctor in the Italian sports doctor Michele Ferrari in training issues.

2013 he drove for the third time on the thankless fourth place overall in the Giro d' Italia.
