Michelle Karvinen

Michelle Karvinen (born 27 March 1990 in Rødovre ) is a Danish- Finnish ice hockey player who for the University of North Dakota in the WCHA plays since 2011 and plays internationally for Finland. Her brother Jannik is also hockey player, running internationally but for Denmark.

Career

Michelle Karvinen is the daughter of a Danish woman and Heikki Karvinen, who played as a player in Finland and Denmark and now works as a coach in Denmark. Michelle Karvinen grew up in Denmark and began her career at Rødovre SIK, for its youth department they played. From 2005 she ran on for the Under-19 team of the club and won with this team in 2010 and 2011 the championship this age group. In addition, they ran in parallel for the second men's team of the club in the second class 1 division and won their championship in 2011.

Success in Finland and changes in the WCHA

In 2007, she began playing for the Espoo Blues in parallel in the Finnish SM- sarja Naisten. In 2008, she won her first Finnish championship with the Blues and repeated this success a year later.

In 2011 she decided a change to North America and began studying graphic design at the University of North Dakota. In parallel they performed since then for the ice hockey team of the University in the WCHA, a league of the NCAA.

Internationally

Michelle Karvinen has both Danish, and Finnish citizenship. To have the chance to participate in the Olympic Winter Games, she decided aground internationally for the Finnish national team. They debuted in 2006 in the junior national team of Finland. In 2009 she was nominated for her first World Cup, scoring five goals in the tournament and was voted into the All -Star team of the tournament. A year later she took part in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in part and won the bronze medal.

At the 2011 World Championships she won a bronze medal with the Finnish women and was re-elected to the All- Star team.
