Michio Kushi

Michio Kushi (久 司 道夫Japanese, born 1926 in Japan) is an important representative of macrobiotics in the United States and author of numerous books.

Life

After the Second World War Kushi studied with macrobiotic teacher Georges Ohsawa in Japan. He studied law and international relations at the University of Tokyo and continued his studies at Columbia University continues.

He came in 1949 to America. Kushi now lives in Brookline, Massachusetts. He has four living children and fourteen grandchildren.

Michio Kushi and his wife Aveline founded the Erewhon Natural Foods, the East-West Journal, the East-West Foundation, Kushi Foundation and the Kushi Institute in Becket and in Europe, including in Lisbon, Zagreb and Amsterdam.

Aveline and Michio have published more than 70 books, sometimes individually, sometimes together, see plant selection.

Awards

Kushi received the Award of Excellence by the Society of Writers of the United Nations. Opened in 1999 in the Smithsonian Institution's permanent collection on macrobiotics and alternative health care in His name.

For their contribution to nutrition, health and peace in the world received Kushi and his wife on 14 October 2000, Courage of Conscience Award from the Peace Abbey in Sherborn, Massachusetts on the grounds to be people who would give a good example, more consciously live and work for world peace.
