Mick Karn

Mick Karn ( born July 24, 1958 in Nicosia, Cyprus; † January 4, 2011 in London, England, actually: Anthony Michaelides ) was a British musician who was best known as a bassist.

Career

Mick Karn first studied wood wind instruments such as bassoon and clarinet before switching to bass guitar. Together with David Sylvian, his brother Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri Karn formed the band Japan. His fretless bass playing was a defining element of the band's sound. He also worked with Gary Numan on his album Dance ( 1981) and after the dissolution of Japan with Midge Ure (Single: After a Fashion, 1983) and participated in 1984 with Peter Murphy, a member of the formation Bauhaus, Dalis Car as an album. Further collaborations were the album Dreams of Reason Produce Monsters with Steve Jansen and participation in albums by Kate Bush and Joan Armatrading and some solo projects ( Beard in the Letter Box, Plaster the Magic Tongue ). In the early 1990s he founded with Jansen and Richard Barbieri, the label medium; Furthermore, the three musicians worked with David Torn together with the albums Bestial Cluster (1993) and The Tooth Mother ( 1995). During this time, Karn also worked on the band project with Polytown, which belonged to the drummer Terry Bozzio Torn apart ( Each Eye a Path). In summer 2010, an advanced cancer was found at Karnak. In support of Karn and his family the compilation ... A Show Of Love, Respect & Grace was - A Tribute To Mick Karn (The Council) released.
