Mickeln House

Mickeln Castle is an estate in the district of Düsseldorf Himmelgeist. It stands on the site of the burned house Mickeln 1836, which fell to the year 1210. The then owner of Duke Louis of Arenberg had the castle with the sum insured by the architect Joseph Niehaus rebuild as a summer residence. As a template, especially prints of the architect Galeazzo Alessi villas from the 16th century served.

The castle is in plan a square with side length of 19.55 meters and is decorated on all four sides equal, apart from the staircase on the north side. The road to the entrance is lined with lime trees, a concept that dates back to the year 1843, when the adjacent park by landscape architect Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe was planned. Part of today's tree population still dates from this period, such as sycamores, beeches and two cedars of Lebanon; the latter are among the Düsseldorf natural monuments.

Since June 2000, the Castle of the Heinrich -Heine- University of Dusseldorf is used as a conference center and guest house.
