Micranthocereus auriazureus is a species of the genus Micranthocereus in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ).

Description

Micranthocereus auriazureus growing shrubby with columnar, light blue instincts and reaches stature heights of up to 1.1 meters. The shoots have diameters 6-7 centimeters. There are 15 to 18 rounded ribs present, which are furrowed wavy and are somewhat divided in cusp. The golden yellow areoles turn gray with age. From them spring numerous radiating, 10 to 13 millimeters long, dark golden-yellow spines, which are bright yellow with age. They are difficult to distinguish in central and radial spines. The barely trained cephalium consists of plenty of wool.

The cylindrical flowers are bright lilac or orange pink and open at night. They are up to 2.5 inches long and have a diameter of 1.1 centimeters. The berry-like, bright pink fruit reach a length of 18 mm in diameters 14 to 16 mm.

Systematics, distribution and hazard

Micranthocereus auriazureus is common in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais in the region Grão Mogol. The first description was in 1973 by Albert as Frederik Hendrik Buining and Arnold J. Brederoo.

Micranthocereus auriazureus is on the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN as ' Endangered ( EN )', ie endangered classified.
