Micranthocereus polyanthus

Micranthocereus polyanthus is a species of the genus Micranthocereus in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ).

Description

Micranthocereus polyanthus grows from the base with branching columnar, bluish green shoots and reaches stature heights of up to 1.25 meters. The shoots have diameters of 3.5 to 6 centimeters. There are 15 to 22 (rarely 12 ) low ribs available. The 1 to 2 inches apart standing areolae are covered with white wool. The 3-7 golden yellow to reddish central spines are long and 3 inches. The 20 to 30 needle-like, white to golden yellow radial spines are 5 to 12 millimeters long. The inconspicuous cephalium located near the shoot tip.

The tubular pink to something pink flowers appear very numerous. They are 1.6 to 1.8 inches long. The fruits are pink.

Systematics, distribution and hazard

Micranthocereus polyanthus is widespread in the Brazilian state of Bahia. The first description was in 1932 as Cephalocereus polyanthus by Erich Werdermann. Curt Backeberg she put 1938 in the genus Micranthocereus.

Micranthocereus polyanthus is on the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN as ' Endangered ( EN )', ie endangered classified.
