Micranthocereus streckeri

Micranthocereus streckeri is a species of the genus Micranthocereus in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ).

Description

Micranthocereus streckeri grows from the base branching with parallel upright, short columnar stems and reaches stature heights of up to 70 centimeters. The bright blue-green to gray- green shoots are later brownish and have a diameter of 5.5 centimeters. There about 25 closely spaced ribs available. The oval areolae are covered with brownish wool and whitish hairs. From them spring from about 30 to 2.3 centimeters long yellow spines and bristles, some with up to 10 centimeters in length. The clearly pronounced cephalium is up to 20 centimeters long and 3.5 centimeters wide. It consists of yellowish brown wool of up to 1.3 centimeters long and reddish brown, to 2.4 cm long bristles and a few thorns.

The tubular purple flowers appear in groups. They are up to 2.2 inches long and have a diameter of 4 millimeters. The beer -like fruits are purple and 1 to 1.1 centimeters in length and diameter.

Systematics, distribution and hazard

Micranthocereus streckeri west is the Brazilian state of Bahia spread by Seabra. The first description was in 1986 by Werner van Heek and Louis van Criekinge.
