Micrite

Micrite called lime sludge solidified, that is, the proportion of the carbonate grains with grain sizes of < 0.063 mm, which often form the matrix of a limestone. The crystal faces of micrite grains are not trained and they are not even microscopically in the matrix resolvable. Shine micrite and fine sparite or so do not sparkle in the handpiece and only gross sparite glistening crystalline. Structureless limestones can be macroscopically as fine -grained as to appear so dense and homogeneous and act as a matte ground. This rock is then called Kalklutit.

Based on the limestone classification of Folk ( 1962) are to be designated as limestones mikritisch when their base composition to predominantly of micrite matrix ( and not from the often coarser sparite cement) is. By type of coarser carbonate components, which are surrounded by the matrix of micrite, the name of a micritic limestone rock oriented: those that contain mostly intraclasts are called Intramikrite. Oomikrite, Pelmikrite and Onkomikrite. They contain not only predominantly micrite ooids, peloids and Onkoide. In Biomikriten biogenic components such as shells dominate. As biomikritisches sediment is also predominantly formed from coccoliths Rügen chalk.
