Microaerophile

Microaerophilic Phil denotes a term from biology, one feature of aerobic microorganisms.

Microaerophilic microorganisms can grow best when the oxygen concentration in the medium is much lower than at saturation with normal air ( ~ 20 % oxygen). Another definition microaerophilic microorganisms are active only at an oxygen concentration of less than 1-2 % of the saturation concentration is less than 20 % oxygen. Examples of microaerophilic bacteria: Representatives of the genus Campylobacter and Helicobacter.
