Microbicide

Microbicides are chemical substances that kill microbes, and are among the biocides. In many dispersions such as paints, coatings, detergents, shampoos and cosmetics Microbicides are necessary ingredients (so-called in-can preservatives ) to ensure a long shelf life and good product quality.

, Substances that kill target only one species of microorganisms can be specified to be more accurate. They are then:

  • Virucides - against viruses
  • Bactericides - against bacteria, with the special case of Tuberculocidal (tuberculosis -causing germs)
  • Fungicides - against fungi
  • Algicides - against algae
