Micrometeorite

Micro meteorites are tiny meteorites with a size of typically a few hundred micrometers to a few millimeters. Micrometeorites are closely related to the interplanetary dust.

Approximately 95 % of the light incident on the earth interplanetary material consists of micrometeorites. Mineralogical and of the chemical composition, similar to the vast majority of the carbonaceous chondrites and micrometeorites relatively few ordinary chondrites, although the number of ordinary chondrites far outweighs at the macroscopic meteorites. It is believed that the micrometeorites, the frequencies of the different types of asteroids in the asteroid belt better represent than do the macroscopic meteorites. It is however assumed that the micrometeorites originate mainly from the asteroid belt. But that is not backed up. An origin of micrometeorites of comets is also discussed.
