Micronesian Games

The Mikronesienspiele are sports competitions Micronesian participants with Olympic character.

History

The Mikronesienspiele in 1969 for the first time unofficially on the Northern Mariana Islands, which belong politically to the United States, held in Saipan. Despite the the event was considered unofficial, one speaks of the first Mikronesienspielen. Although it was planned from the start to carry out the games regularly, the second event was in 1990 also held in Saipan. Since then, the event takes place annually.

Entrants must be from ten countries and dependent territories of Micronesia region since the first edition of the Games participants. This includes the four sovereign states Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and Palau, U.S. foreign areas Northern Mariana Islands and Guam, and the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae and Yap.

All participants are as a participant under the flag of the Federated States of Micronesia also entitled to compete in the Pacific Games.

2006 found as a demonstration competitions climb coconut trees and coconut peel instead. These are listed as official competitions, but is not included in the medals table.
