Microsoft ScanDisk

ScanDisk is a computer program that was created by Microsoft to identify ( logical and physical ) errors of the hard drive or partition and correct. This is to the integrity of all files are backed up.

ScanDisk solved in later versions of MS -DOS and in product lines Windows 9x and ME from the tool Chkdsk. ScanDisk can FAT formatted, but not check NTFS formatted partitions.

In current versions of Windows and all other NT series ScanDisk in turn was replaced by a version of Chkdsk that have been added to the diagnostic skills of the NTFS file system. Users of XP, Vista or Windows 7 do not find this command line tool such as Disk Defragmenter under Programs \ Accessories \ System Tools, but need to start it via "Execute " of "chkdsk " or click on the partition with the right mouse button in Windows Explorer, right and in the popup menu use under properties → Tools → error checking.
