Microsporidiosis

A microsporidiosis is a disease of various creatures (mammals, insects, crustaceans ) by protozoa. In humans, the clinical relevance is particularly HIV infection. The pathogens are obligate intracellular spore-forming microsporidia. They are also called Micorospora, not to be confused with ringworm!

The microsporidia are several genera, some of which only attack animals. Examples are: Encephalitozoonose, neon disease, Nosemose.

Diagnosis by histological examination.

In human medicine, albendazole is used for treatment purposes. Fumagillin, a substance derived from Aspergillus fumigatus, is approved in France (June 2010).
