Mid Glamorgan

Mid Glamorgan is a Preserved County and a former administrative county of Wales. A Preserved county in Wales includes the responsibility of the ceremonial offices Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff.

Administrative history

In 1974, the new administrative county Mid Glamorgan formed from parts of the county of Glamorgan and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough and is divided into six districts. The administrative headquarters of Mid Glamorgan was outside the county in Cardiff. Since the administrative reform of 1996 Mid Glamorgan is no longer an administrative county, but a Preserved County. In his area today three principal areas:

  • Bridgend
  • Merthyr Tydfil
  • Rhondda Cynon Taf
