The Middle Atlas (Arabic الأطلس المتوسط ​​, DMG al -atlas - al mutawassiṭ ) is one to the Atlas Mountains in North Africa belonging mountain range of almost 500 kilometers in Morocco. The highest peak is 3,356 meters above sea level.

Geography

North of the Middle Atlas is the Rif Mountains, while south of the High Atlas adjacent. In the west fields and the main settlement area of Morocco extend to the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Population

The Middle Atlas is predominantly inhabited by Berbers, especially its north-western foothills are densely populated: So the cities of Beni Mellal, Kasba Tadla, Khénifra, Azrou, Ifrane, Fes and Taza lie in its immediate sphere of influence. In the mountain range itself, there are no major cities; the city Midelt lies between the two Atlas chains.

Infrastructure

The most important places in the Middle Atlas are accessible by paved roads; in remote areas, there are still slopes. One of the main links between northern and southern Morocco, that is, between Fez and Errachidia via the Middle Atlas ( Col du Zad 2,178 m).

Flora and Fauna

Tourism
