Middle name

A middle name is another name that is passed between the first name and the family name.

Germany

In Germany it usually is for intermediate to Patronyme name from the first name of the father with the usual in the local language suffix for " son " or " daughter ". Example: Hinrich Peters Merten means " Hinrich Merten, Peter's son ." This name form is allowed only in the German East Frisian. The same name as a middle name and surname (eg Hinrich Peters Peters) is not (any longer ) allowed; this exception applies even for births outside of East Friesland. The name refers to the mother, it is a Metronym.

With the acquisition of intermediate names from other States acquired under the national law of name shall be registered with the intermediate name in the family book. Repatriates can explain the intermediate store name.

From an intermediate name is not spoken, however, if a person has more than one name.

Norway

In Norway, can be chosen as an intermediate name names that are allowed as a last name. The middle name is not part of the surname, and is often not stated. In a double last name hyphen is put between the two surnames.

North America

In Canada and the United States, the interim name is referred to as middle name and can then either of a first name, as with Anthony Michael Hall, or a family name, such as in Dorothy Walker Bush, exist.
