Middletown is a city on the Connecticut River in the state of Connecticut in the United States. The city has 47 648 inhabitants ( United States Census 2010) and is the county seat of administration of Middlesex County. It is located 28 km south of Hartford, the capital of the state.

In Middletown is the campus of Wesleyan University, which is considered one of the most prestigious private universities in the United States.

Gas power plant

On 7 February 2010, a serious explosion in which there were several deaths occurred in the Kleen Power Plant, an under construction 620 MW gas power plant a few miles east of downtown, at 11:30 local time. The explosion was felt in a radius of about 25 km.
