Midi Libre

The Midi Libre is a French daily newspaper. The editorial office is located in Montpellier. It is the main daily newspaper in the Languedoc- Roussillon region, the Midi Libre still is the major daily newspaper in the department of Aveyron.

The Midi Libre was created as a "Journal Clandestin " the French Resistance. The first official number of the Midi Libre was released on August 27, 1944 on the occasion of Liberation (French = la Libération ) of Montpellier. The name of the newspaper Midi Libre also refers to the la Libération; mutatis mutandis, the name means in German the Free South of France.

In Languedoc-Roussillon Midi Libre has virtually a monopoly in the print press.

The Midi Libre belongs to the Groupe Midi Libre, which in turn is part of the publishing group Le Monde.

The Grand Prix Midi Libre was organized and funded by the Midi Libre.
