Midrand

Province

Midrand is a formerly independent city in South Africa. It is located in the province of Gauteng and had 2011 87.387 inhabitants.

Since the late 1990s, Midrand belongs to region 2 of the metropolis of Johannesburg. Since 2006 it is part of the region A in the metropolitan municipality of the City of Johannesburg. In Midrand Gautrain there is a breakpoint.

Economy

Many international companies, such as Audi, T-Systems, Bosch, Siemens, BMW, Canon or Osram have, the city due to its central location between Johannesburg and Pretoria, its easy access to the highway N1 and the high crime in central Johannesburg as a center chosen for their South Africa activities. The Pan-African Parliament of the African Union in 2008 moved its headquarters from Addis Ababa to Midrand.

Education

In the city the Midrand Graduate Institute is established.
