Midshipman

Midshipmen (English for midship people ) are in the British Royal Navy and the U.S. Navy ensigns at sea (formerly midshipman ), the ship's officers are taught by the Seedienstes and passing the exam. They are named because they some day, prow between the crew and the officers aft, amidships had their property. The Midshipman in English-speaking naval forces corresponds to the cadet of the Russian naval fleet, but is often confused with the michman, which is a stand-alone category below the officer corps there.

United States Navy

In the U.S. Navy, the midshipman is primarily an officer candidate, although the rank is classified to be in the category of officers. The officers of the U.S. Navy are trained at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland or in college courses through the study-related Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps ( NROTC ). The Midshipmen of the Naval Academy are on active duty, while the students of the NROTC program in the reserve of the armed forces.

The collar and sleeve insignia varying by school year to school year and are worn on officer uniforms. In the U.S. higher education system that generally lasts four years, the students of various vintages nicknames are: students are called in the first year, " Freshmen ," the second year " Sophomore ", in the third year, " Junior" and the fourth and last " senior ". Freshmen wear no insignia on the collar, Sophomore an anchor on the right collar and Juniors an anchor on each side of the collar. A student of the Academy in the last year wearing a badge the two anchors, each with an eagle over it on both sides of collar or an officer rank of the Academy. Midshipmen officers are students of the highest year who take over command functions in the Brigade of Midshipmen.

Badge of Midshipmen is the golden anchor, they carry on the shoulder flaps and lapel or collar, with the exception of Midshipman officers, a small gold star and horizontal stripes indicating their rank wear on the epaulettes. The ranks of Midshipman Officers are the same as those of the officer corps of the U.S. Navy, but the badges are different. A Midshipman Ensign wearing a strip, while a Midshipman Captain carries 6 strips as a badge.

A midshipman of the Naval Academy is remunerated at 750 USD per month. This amount is however greatly reduced by the purchase of books and of uniform items. Students of the NROTC program received a grant of 250 to 400 U.S. dollars. It all NROTC midshipmen - get the standard uniforms for free.

In the naval forces of most countries specially active rank designations for Marines during their training are used for officer in accordance with the rank designation midshipman in Anglophone armed forces. Some examples are listed below:
