Mieste is a town and a district of the Hanseatic City Guard Insert in the Altmark Salzwedel in the north-west of Saxony- Anhalt.
Geography
Mieste lies between the Drömling and Colbitz - Letzlinger Heide on the main road 188 (14 km east) and Oebisfelde (17 miles west) connects the village with the towns Gardelegen. For both cities, there is also a rail link. The Mieste surrounding agricultural areas are only moderately fertile soil with an average of 37 points. Approximately 6 kilometers south of the village runs the Mittelland Canal, the next transfer point for cargo ship is in Calvörde.
History
Mieste was first documented in 959, when Emperor Otto I the place then called Mösde, made it the object of a donation. 1420 Mieste under the Wendish names Myest ( Dam, dam road ) was performed, which indicates the location on the lowland area of the Drömling. The Drömling was up to its fluid drainage in the 18th and 19th centuries an inaccessible swamp lowlands. Probably in the 18th century Miesterhorst originated as a colony of Mieste on one of the nests in Drömling.

When, after the Congress of Vienna, Prussia reformed its county government, Mieste came in 1818 in the county Gardelegen. The population rose from 1840 to 1910 from 785 to 1559. 1871 it was connected to the railway network. On 1 January 2011 the municipality Mieste and 17 other VWG Southern Altmark were dissolved and amalgamated with Gardelegen.

1990-1994 was Horst hoe mayor from Mieste, 1994-2008 Dirk Sagittarius. Last Mayor of Mieste was Kai- Michael Neubüser ( CDU).

Culture and sights
- Protestant village church Mieste from the 19th century. Your church belongs to the parish church Mieste in Salzwedel. Near the church there is a monument to Bartholomew Rieseberg.
- Neoclassical school building from 1956
- Catholic St. Elizabeth's Church, situated on a branch of the giant mountain road. It was built 1957-59 in an existing timber-framed building and is named after Elizabeth of Thuringia. Today, the church belongs to the parish of St. Hildegard based in Gardelegen.
