Migrating motor complex

The migrating motor complex ( MMC) is a cyclic, motor activity pattern of the small intestine and stomach. This occurs particularly under fasting digestive system. For this complex and the stomach growl results on an empty stomach.

An MMC in the stomach takes 90 to 120 minutes, and is divided into three phases:

  • In phase 1, there is no mechanical and secretory activity of the stomach.
  • In Phase 3, the stomach contracted sharply, the air is compressed in the stomach and causes noise.
