Miguel Gonçalves Mendes

Miguel Gonçalves Mendes ( born September 2, 1978 in Covilhã ) is a Portuguese film director.

Career

He studied for a semester each International Relations at the Technical University of Lisbon, and Historical Archaeology at the New University of Lisbon, before completing a film studies at the ESTC ( Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema).

After various theater activities he founded in 2002 the film production company Jump Cut. His documentary Autografia, on the surrealist painter Mário Cesariny was awarded the DocLisboa Film Festival 2006

For his documentary José e Pilar ( " José and Pilar ", 2010) on the literature, José Saramago and his wife Pilar del Río, he received several awards, including three prizes at Caminhos do Cinema Português Film Festival in Coimbra. The film was also a success at the box office ( among the most watched Portuguese films since 2004), and was published in the episode on DVD.
