Miguel Martinez (cyclist)

Miguel Martinez ( born January 17, 1976 in Fourchambault ) is a French mountain biking, cyclo-cross and road racing cyclist.

Sporting career

Miguel Martinez won the 1993 bronze medal in the junior race of the Cyclocross World Championships. In the Mountain Bike World Cup in 1995 in Kirchzarten he won the silver medal in the cross country race. He was Cyclocross World Champion in the U23 class in 1996. In the same year he won the Cross Country World Cup in his first Bromont and in Kristiansand and at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, he won the bronze medal. In 1997, he won two World Cup races again and was also in the overall first. Two years later he won the silver medal at the Mountain Bike World Championships in Åre, Sweden. In the Olympic year 2000, he was cross-country world champion, Olympic champion and he decided to back the World Cup itself.

On the road, Martinez won a stage of the 2002 Vuelta a Navarra and started with his team Mapei - Quick · Step in the Tour de France. There he was once a stage eight and ended the tour on the 44th place in the overall standings. The next year he went for the Phonak Cycling Team.

Mariano Martinez, the father of Miguel Martinez, was also a professional cyclist and 1977 could win a stage at the Étoile de Bessèges. His brother Martin Martinez was in 1974 on a section of the Vuelta a España successful. Even Miguel's older brother Yannick Martinez cyclist.

Honors

Miguel Martinez was honored with induction into the Hall of Fame of the European Cycling Union Union Européenne de Cyclisme.
