Miguel Mihura

Miguel Santos Mihura (* July 21, 1905 Madrid, † 28 October 1977 in Madrid) was a Spanish writer who worked as a writer of successful comedies, but also as editor of satirical magazines and screenwriter. He is regarded as the most important representatives of the Spanish-language humorous theater of the 20th century.

Life

Miguel Mihura was the son of the actor and theater producer Miguel Álvarez Mihura. He grew up in Madrid, where he left school with no qualifications to operate instead as a draftsman for humorous journals. He later founded two satirical magazines: During the Civil War, which he spent on the side of the "National " La ametralladora (Machine Gun ) and during the subsequent Franco dictatorship Codorniz ( quail ).

His work

His first stage work was Tres sombreros de copa ( Three top hats, 1932), which was ahead of its time and was not performed until the early 50s. In this piece, the petty world of the bourgeoisie is contrasted with the Convention free but dominated by financial constraints of life of the artist world, using a brief amorous adventure of a man the night before his marriage. Tres sombreros de copa is one of the most important works of Spanish theater of the XX. Century and as a precursor of the theater of the absurd.

The later works were largely boulevard plays. He was involved in the screenplay by Bienvenido, Mr. Marshall, one of the most successful Spanish films of the 50s.
