Mihnea Motoc

Mihnea Ioan Motoc ( born November 11, 1966 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian diplomat and ambassador of his country to the European Union.

Life

Motoc studied law at the University of Bucharest from 1984 until 1989. Subsequently, he completed a Certificate of post-graduate studies in International Private Law at the University of Nice. Motoc was Romanian diplomat since the early 1990s when he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. In the 1990s Motoc spent some time in various Romanian governments.

Motoc is married to the international law professor and expert as well as a judge at the Constitutional Court of Romania Iulia Motoc; they have a son.

Career

Motoc worked as a diplomat since the early 1990s, when he entered the service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. The majority of the 1990s he spent in the service of various Romanian governments. He went in 2003 to the United Nations, where he spent five years as the Permanent Representative of Romania. In 2008 he left the UN to be Permanent Representative of Romania to the European Union.

Awards

  • 2000: National Order of Merit in the rank of Commander of Romania for outstanding services to the country
  • 2007: Order of Diplomatic Merit decorated in the rank of Officer in character, high appreciation for their outstanding work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
