Mika (singer)

Mika [ mikə ] ( born August 18, 1983 in Beirut, Michael Holbrook Penniman actually ) is a Lebanese- British singer, composer and producer. With his first album Life in Cartoon Motion 2007, succeeded him both with the critics as well as with the listeners positively recorded debut. Worldwide he sold them almost 5.6 million records. The songs written by him are clearly influenced by the pop music of the 1970s and 1980s.

Biography

Mika was born as the third of five children of a Lebanese mother and an American father in Beirut. His family fled in 1984 before the civil war in Lebanon, first to Paris and then to London. As a dyslexic Mika had problems at school and was teased by his classmates, so his mother taught him for a year at home. During this time he became interested in music. At age eleven, Mika came on stage at the Royal Opera House, the Richard Strauss opera Die Frau ohne Schatten on. At 19 he left home to study at the London School of Economics Geology. He thought better of it, however, on the day of enrollment differently and signed up two weeks later at the " Royal College of Music" at.

2006 Mika had landed with the single Relax, Take It Easy a moderate success at the British broadcasters and arrived in Sweden and Eastern Europe in the charts. In January 2007, Mika was chosen by the British BBC television for the most promising musicians for the year 2007.

His published on 14 January 2007 Single Grace Kelly went straight to number 1 on the UK download charts and a week later # 1 on the pop charts in the UK. Equally successful was his debut album Life in Cartoon Motion, which also debuted at No. 1 on the charts. Mika is at Casablanca Records and its parent company Universal Music under contract. In December 2007, appeared in Germany, the fourth single from the album Happy Ending, in March 2008, as further decoupling lollipop.

In spring 2009, his acoustic EP Songs for Sorrow was published. His second studio album The Boy Who Knew Too Much was released in September of the same year; before the pre-release single We Are Golden came into the international charts. 2010 Mika participated in a charity project Helping Haiti by Simon Cowell. On 5th October 2012 Mika released his third studio album The Origin of Love. The first single is Celebrate.

Awards

At the World Music Awards 2007 Mika was in the " Best Selling British Artist", " Best Selling New Artist ", " Best Selling Male Entertainer" and "World's Best Selling Pop-Rock Male Artist " an award.

In February 2008, Mika was awarded both an echo in the category "Newcomer International" and with a BRIT Award for Best Newcomer. In January, he had already been awarded a NRJ Music Award for Best International Newcomer.

In 2010 he was " Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres " appointed by the French Minister of Culture Frédéric Mitterrand.
