Mikael Ljungberg

Mikael Ljungberg ( born June 13, 1970 in Gothenburg, † November 17, 2004 in Mölndal, near Gothenburg ) was a Swedish wrestler.

Ljungberg was the champion in wrestling in Greco-Roman wrestling in the 97 kg class at the Summer Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney. In addition, Ljungberg won a bronze medal as well as 2 each World Cup and European Championship title at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Persistent back problems due to a violation in Sydney in January 2002 forced him to end his career.

On November 15, 2004, ie only two days before his death, Ljungberg had been chosen as the new sporting director at the Swedish Wrestling Federation. Ljungberg was for depression in medical treatment. He ended his life by suicide; he hanged himself in the psychiatric clinic where he was a patient.
