Mike Brown (basketball, born 1970)
Mike Brown ( born March 5, 1970 in Columbus, Ohio) is an American basketball coach. From the 2013/2014 season he coached the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA. In 2007 he reached the finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers. When his specialty is generally considered the defense of (Defense) and the ability to develop a good rapport with his players.
NBA career as an assistant coach
After his high school graduation at the Würzburg American High School in Wurzburg, Germany, in 1988, he began in 1992 his coaching career in the NBA as an assistant to Dan Issel with the Denver Nuggets, first as a video coordinator and later as a scout. In 1997, he signed with the Washington Wizards as an assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff. In 1999, he was then Chief Scout at the Washington Wizards. In 2000, he was under Gregg Popovich assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs. He was also the head coach of the NBA Summer League teams in Boston and Salt Lake City. After 2003 he won the Finals with the San Antonio Spurs, he became the assistant of Rick Carlisle with the Indiana Pacers. He reached with them the Conference Finals in 2004. Mike Brown's balance sheet as an assistant coach is 341-201.
NBA career as head coach
In June 2005, he replaced Brendan Malone as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, thus he was the second-youngest head coach in the NBA. In 2007, he led the Cleveland Cavaliers to the superstar LeBron James for the first time in franchise history in the NBA Finals. There, however, they lost 0-4 against the San Antonio Spurs. 2008 Mike Brown Eastern Conference coach of the month of January and coached the East All- Star team. He was the second Cleveland Cavaliers coach Lenny Wilkens according to who was allowed to coach the All- Star team. In the 2008 / 09 season, Brown was honored with the NBA Coach of the Year Award. In the following season, he was released after the departure in the playoffs against the Boston Celtics. He is succeeded by Byron Scott. As the NBA season 2011/12 replaced Mike Brown, Phil Jackson, the legendary coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. On 9 November 2012, he was released due to a unexpectedly poor start to the season of the team.
For the 2013/2014 season Brown returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers and assumes there again the post of Head Coach.
