Mike Campbell (musician)

Mike Campbell ( born 1 February 1950 in Panama City, Florida ) is an American musician and guitarist for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.

At the age of 16 he got his first guitar. After playing his early career in two bands ( Dead Or Alive, Mudcrutch ), the guitarist was in 1975 a founding member of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers to which it belongs since then without interruption. Alongside he co-produced some of the band's albums and three solo albums by Tom Petty, Full Moon Fever, Wildflowers and Highway Companion. He also wrote several songs for other artists, as for example, most of the first album by Meat Loaf ( Meat Loaf feat. Stoney, 1978). His most successful composition is probably the song "The Boys of Summer ", which he wrote with Don Henley.

Since 1975, Campbell has been married to his wife, Marcie, with whom he has three children.

The Dirty Knobs

In addition to Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Mike Campbell is productive in the band " The Dirty Knobs". Campbell says about the sound of the Dirty Knobs he was more "edge " than the sound of the Heartbreakers and very much geared to the 60s.
