Mike Dunham

Michael Francis Dunham ( born June 1, 1972 in Johnson City, New York ) is a retired American professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently goalkeeping coach for the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League.

Career

Mike Dunham was pulled at the NHL Entry Draft in 1990 by the New Jersey Devils in the third round ( total number 53 ). After that, he played for several years at the University of Maine and in the AHL Albany River Rats for which he won the Calder Cup. Only in 1996 he came first in the NHL to use, winning along with goalkeeper Martin Brodeur, the William M. Jennings Trophy for the / the goalkeeper with the fewest goals against. In the summer of 1998 he was transferred to the Nashville Predators, where he was the number 1. In February 2002, he won at the Olympic Winter Games, the silver medal, even if it was only used once.

During the 2002/ 03 season it was for him back to the East Coast when he was transferred to the New York Rangers. During the lockout in the 2004/05 season he played in Sweden for Skellefteå AIK. At the beginning of the 2005/06 season he signed a contract in the NHL with the Atlanta Thrashers, but he missed with his team the Play Offs.

After his contract expired, lay before him some offers. Since he is originally from the state of New York, where his family lives and he had already played for the Rangers and Devils New Jersey, he decided to accept the offer of the New York Islanders, for which he the 2006/07 season as a back- up goalie Rick DiPietro of disputes. He showed at the beginning of the season very good performance, he could not convince the end. Especially when he had to take over the role as goalkeeper, because she contracted DiPietro a concussion, he faltered. He lost five games in a row and conceded 24 goals here.

After the season, his contract was not renewed in the summer of 2007, but he remained in the organization of the Islanders and was unveiled in September as a goalkeeper coach.
