Mike Keane

Michael J. "Mike" Keane ( * May 29, 1967 in Winnipeg, Manitoba ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player ( Right Wing ), who from 1984 to 2002 for the Montreal Canadiens, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks played in the National Hockey League. The last five years of his playing career spent Keane at the Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League. In February 2011, the franchise locked the back number 12 of her former team captain.

Career

Keane played during his junior time together with Mark MacKay, Theoren Fleury and Kelly Buchberger at the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League. After he was not selected in the NHL Entry Draft, he signed as a free agent with the Montreal Canadiens. At the Junior World Cup 1987, he played for Canada. Then he came to a few missions in the American Hockey League with the Sherbrooke Canadiens, where he spent the entire 1987/88 season.

In the 1988/89 season he managed by its robust and unselfish style of play in the NHL breakthrough. He had his most successful season with the Canadiens season 1992 /93. With 45 templates and 60 points he set personal bests. At the end of this season, he won the Stanley Cup with the Canadiens. The strike caused a short season in 1994/95 was the only one in which he did not reach the playoffs with his team. Shortly after the start of the following season, the Canadiens parted by her longtime goalkeeper Patrick Roy, in this barter also switched Keane to Colorado Avalanche, who sent to Montreal in exchange for Jocelyn Thibault, Martin and Andrei Kovalenko Ručínský. In his first season in 1995/96 he was able to win the Stanley Cup again.

In the summer of 1997 he signed as a free agent with the New York Rangers, but before the end of the season he was discharged together with Brian Skrudland to the Dallas Stars, which for Todd Harvey and Bob Errey sent to the Rangers. In the 1998/99 season he was able to win his third Stanley Cup with the third different team. His next stop was the St. Louis Blues, where he signed as a free agent in July 2001, but as in New York was, this station was short-lived. After the Avalanche did not renew his contract, he signed with the Vancouver Canucks shortly after the start of the 2003/04 season a contract. That was his last season in the NHL. After the NHL went on strike one season, he moved to the AHL Manitoba Moose to the for which he played from 2005 to 2010. During the season 2006/ 07 Keane participated as team captain at the AHL All-Star Classic. At season's end the right wing was awarded the Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award. Even with the Manitoba Moose Keane had held the office of captain and crew was there always set as a regular player. After he finished his playing career, the franchise locked his shirt number 12 in February 2011.
