After the Second World War Magill began his racing career in 1955 in the AAA National Series. 15 times he went to 1959 in the series at the start. His best result was the fourth rank in the race in Langhorne 1955.
In 1957 he made his debut in the 500 miles of Indianapolis. Actually, Juan Manuel Fangio should control the Kurtis Kraft, but contractual problems prevented the start of the five -time Formula 1 World Champion. Magill took over the vehicle and had to spend over an hour in the pits to repair the car after an accident in the first round.
