Mike Muuss

Michael John Muuss ( born October 16, 1958, † 20 November 2000) was the author of the free network program ping.

Until his death he was a scientist with the U.S. Army in the science lab of Maryland and dealt with geometry, ray tracing, and computer networks. He wrote a number of programs and network programs, but it brings (written in December 1983 at the Ballistics Research Lab) with him most often the only 1000 lines long ping program in conjunction.

Because of its usefulness Ping has been implemented in many operating systems, although it was originally written for BSD.

From the USENIX Association 1993 Muuss got an award for his life's work. In November 2000, he died in a car accident.
