Mike O'Rourke (athlete)

Mike O'Rourke (actually Michael David O'Rourke, born August 21, 1955 in Croydon, Australia ) is a former New Zealand javelin thrower.

At the Athletics World Cup 1977 in Dusseldorf, he was sixth. In 1978 he won silver at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton. A second place at the World Cup in 1979 and a sixth place at the World Cup in 1981 followed the victory at the Commonwealth Games in 1982 in Brisbane. At the World Athletics Championships 1983 in Helsinki and at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he was eliminated in the qualifying.

In 1990, he finished fifth at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland.

Eight times he was New Zealand champion (1976-1982, 1988). In 1981 he was Australian champion, 1981 and 1983 English Champion.
